Royal Bardia National
Park
The royal Bardia National Park is spread
over 968 sq. km. and located in the western
Nepal Terai. It is easily the largest and
least disturbed wilderness spread in the
terai and is predominantly sal forest
sprinkled with tall grasslands. It is
bounded on the north by the Churia Hills and
is skirted on the west by the Geruwa River.
It is here that your chances of spotting a
tiger in Nepal are the highest. Other
animals include the rhinoceros, swamp deer,
leopard, jungle cats, blue bulls, sloth
bear, barking deer, and langurs. There are a
few wild elephants and some of the males are
considered the largest in Asia.
The Geruwa River that rushes in through a
break in the hill range, is home to the
famous masher game fish, gharial, marsh
mugger crocodiles and the freshwater
Gangetic dolphins. The park also has cobras,
kraits and pythons.
The park boasts more than 250 species of
birds, including the endangered Bengal
florica, Sarus crane and many species of
geese, duck and parakeets. |

When To Visit?
The best time to visit Royal Bardia
National Park, and Chitwan National Park is
from October through March, when the
temperature averages 25 degrees Celcius. The
months of March, April and June can be
extremely hot, while July - September is the
monsoon season when river swell and part of
the become inaccessible. |

How To Get There?
A) By surface: A pleasant five hours drive
by car or bus on the Kathmandu - Narayanghat
highway follows the Trishuli river offering
you a continually changing landscape from
the mountains of the Himalayas to the plains
of the Terai.
B) By raft: One of the most exciting way to
travel to the park is to raft down the
Trishuli River. For two or more days you can
float down the river experiencing its
numerous rapid and seeing a variety of
village life, flora and fauna along its
banks.
C) By air: 20 min. flight will bring you
from Kathmandu to Bharatpur where you will
be met by our staff and transfer to the
resort. |

What To Bring?
Binoculars, Flashlight, Insect repellent, A
jacket or sweater from November through
February. Lightest clothing with sunglasses
and hats from April onwards. Pants should be
worn during elephant rides. Bright colors
such as red and white should be avoided
since those colors have been known to upset
the rhinos. Comfortable walking shoes are
essential. Please carry only the bare
necessities but not jewellery and valuable
items. During the warmer months swimming
suits are recommended. |
