Makalu is the fifth highest mountain in the world. It is an isolated peak, located just 14 miles east of Mount Everest in the border between Nepal and Tibet. Its size alone is impressive, but its structure looks like a perfect pyramid with steep pitches and four sharp ridges, makes this mountain all the more spectacular. It has proven to be a challenging climb as only five of its first sixteen attempts were successful. Chomo Lonzo (7,814 m) is a subsidiary peak of Makalu, just north of the higher summit. This is the only 8,000m peak in Nepal, yet to be climbed in true winter season.

Best Season: April/May & Sep/Oct

Day 04: Fly to Tumlingtar. & trek to Khandbari (1,040 m). O/N in lodge

Day 05: Trek to Botebas (1,730 m). O/N in lodge

Day 06: Trek to Chichira. O/N in lodge

Day 07: Trek to Num. Overnight in lodge

Day 08: Trek to Kuwapani (1,560 m). O/N in lodge

Day 09: Trek to Tashigaon (2,100 m). O/N in lodge

Day 10: Rest day at Tashigaon for acclimatization

Day 11: Trek to Kauma (3,760 m). O/N in camp

Day 12: Trek to Dobato (3,700m). O/N in camp

Day 13: Trek to Nebe Kharka (4,320 m). O/N in camp

Day 14: Trek to Sherson (4,360 m). O/N in camp

Day 15: Trek to Makalu Base Camp

Day 16-49: Climbing period

Day 50: Cleaning up Base Camp

Day 51: Trek to Yak Kharka. O/N in lodge/ camp

Day 52: Trek to Mumbuk. O/N in lodge

Day 53: Trek back to Tashigaon. O/N in lodge

Day 54: Trek back to Num. O/N in lodge

Day 55: Trek back to Chichira. O/N in lodge

Day 56: Trek to Khandbari. O/N in lodge

Day 57: Trek back to Tumlingtar and fly back to Kathmandu

Day 58: Free day in Kathmandu
