Everest or upper Khumbu region is the second most popular trekking area in Nepal.The region has lured thousand of adventure seekers to explore and experience high mountain valleys, high passes, Buddhist cultures and stunning Sherpa villages and incredible views of the lofty snowy mountain peaks of Mt. Everest (8848 m), Mt. Cho Oyu (8153m), Mt. Makalu (8470 m) Mt. Ama Dablam (6856 m) and many others. It is protected by the Sagarmatha National Park with an area of 1148 square kilometers. The park is largely composed of the rugged terrain and gorges of the high Himalayas. The original route to Everest region starts from Jiri but now most of travelers prefer to a scenic flight to Lukla (2850 m) from where the trek begins. While walking from Lukla you will be surrounded by glistening spires of snow peaks and the route is dotted by sacred Tibetan Buddhist mani stones (engraved with prayers and Buddhist images), prayer flags and the occasional stupa (representing the mind of Buddha). The winding Dudh and Bhote Koshi rivers are beautiful glacier-fed aqua blue, joined by many tributaries supporting waterfalls. Gradually you will reach to bustling town of Namche Bazaar , to the most revered Tengboche Monastery, to crystalline Gokyo Lake , historic Everest Base Camp, and many other remarkable sites in the Everest region. En route you will share the trail with yak trains and other trekkers. Treks start from one week to more than a month.
