In April of 2009, six friends and I embarked on an adventure we had all dreamed about. Initially we had planned to use a large well-known trekking group. Based on the recommendation of a friend from Nepal, we chose Himalaya Heart Treks and Expeditions (www.seenepal.com). The choice could not have been better. From our arrival at the airport in Kathmandu until our departure 2 1/2 weeks later we were treated like best friends. I planned to say "treated like royalty", but that implies a formal and distant relationship, which was not the case.
Himalaya Heart Treks is a small employee-owned company. One of the owners, Thakur, was our trek leader for 14 days. We traveled up the Dudh Koshi River to Goyko Ri, crossed the Cho La Pass to Kala Patthar. We ascended to 17,500 feet twice and eventually to 18,200 feet at Kala Patthar, where we had our best view of Mt. Everest. At this point we were looking at the Everest base camp some 800 feet below.
At all times the support staff was looking out for our health and safety first. Our group ranged in age from 15 to 65, so finding the right pace was no easy task. Each day the staff traveled ahead to prepare our camp and food for our arrival. Speaking of food..... it was beyond our expectations. Meals were all prepared on-site- always hot and delicious. They were great at accommodating the 2 vegetarians in the group, one of which was me.
I tried come up with some constructive comments on how to improve future treks, but I couldn't. These guys seem to really understand needs, anticipate most and respond quickly to others. I can recommend them without reservation.
