The Annapurna Region lies toward the north of Central Nepal . The region is well known for the most dramatic natural scenery, deep valleys, gorge, high mountain passes, sub-tropical to alpine vegetation, Buddhist monasteries, Muktinath Temple , ancient villages,ethnic people, their culture and their lifestyle. The region consists of Annapurna peaks, Mt. Dhaulagiri , Mt.Annapurnas I, II, III & IV, Kali Gandaki River and several climbing peaks. The most prominent ethnic groups of people are Gurung, Thakali and Managhis. Animals found here are Pika, blue sheep and Himalayan Tahr and vegetation ranges from tropical species to temperate forest of oak, beech and rhododendron. Mustang or Lo Manthang, the desert plateau located in the upper valley of the river Kali Gandaki, and to the north of the main Himalayan range also falls in this region. The popular trekking routes of this region are Jomsom, Annapurna Circuit and Annapurna Base Camp , Annapurna foothills, Sikles, Lamjung, Dhaulagiri, Upper Mustang and around Pokhara. The best time to visit this region for trekking and mountaineering is during spring and autumn.
Annapurna Circuit trek is one of the greatest classic treks taking trekkers through a huge variety of landscapes from lush green paddy fields, sub-tropical rainforest, deep valleys, and wooded alpine slopes to an arid semi-desert similar to Tibet and the deepest gorge in the world. The climax of the Annpaurna Round trek is the Thorong La Pass (5416 m).
Annapurna Base Camp Trek is classic trek relatively short and can be completed in as little as 14 days. The trek starts at Nayapul and takes us to the Base Camp of the Annapurna South. The view along the trails is superb. Walking slowly and passing through terraced farms, we reach Machhapuchare base camp.
Ghorepani Poonhill Trek is a relatively easy and very popular trek that winds through picturesque rural ethnic hamlets, and forests of rhododendron and bamboo. Poon hill (3200 m) is the highest point of the trek for a magnificent view of the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri ranges and experiencing sunrise over the Himalayas.
Jomsom Muktinath Trek is suited for those who are interested in experiencing the lifestyle of the mountain people and deserted plateau above the tree line and sharing the trail with caravans of donkeys and ponies traveling to Mustang & other areas in the far north of Nepal. The temple of Muktinath with 108 water ponds emerging holy water is equally sacred to both Hindu and Buddhist Pilgrims.
Annapurna Sanctuary Trek is another classic trek, shorter then the Annapurna circuit, which can be completed in as little as 13 days. The trek starts at Nayapul and takes us to the Base Camp of Annapurna South. The trail is visually superb with magnificent views of Machhapuchhre, Annapurna South and Hiunchuli.
This Mardi Himal trek is newly opened off the beaten route begins at Suiket Phedi towards the south western lower slope of Mount Machhapuchare. The trail passes through Dhampus, the second largest Gurung village to venture into the deep forests to above the tree line that flanks the Annapurna ranges.
Starting from Pokhara this Trans-Himalayan adventure trek leads to one of the highest lakes, Tilicho Lake at 4919 m in the Central Himalaya. This trek takes us through two of the least visited mountain passes in Nepal, then ascend up to 5500 m and get the best views of Manaslu,Himchuli, Peak 29 and many others.
Annapurna Royal trek was popularly named the Royal Trek (1800 m) after Prince Charles completed this ridge walk just east of Pokhara.in 1980 . The Royal Trek is highly recommended for those who have never experienced trekking before. It is also suitable for families with children as its path is wide and easy to follow, and does not ascend higher than 2,000 meters.
