The Rolwaling valley lies to the east of Kathmandu and west of Khumbu, below Mt. Gauri Shankar (7145 m), south of Tibetan border. The trail starts from Barhabise, a small trading town of Sindupalchowk and then leads up along the Tama Koshi river bank under the shadow of Mt.Gauri Shankar to Bhote Koshi River.

The Nar and Phu valleys are newly opened treks above the tree line in the Upper Mustang Region. It takes 5 hrs to reach the pass that links Nar with Manang and three other Bhotia villages in the lower Nyeshang valley. In terms of distance both Nar and the neighboring village of Phu is only a day's walk from Chame situated on the eastern side of the Annapurna Circuit.
